The Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey (JFSNJ) and its partner Envoy America are pleased to continue to see growth of the JFed Rides transportation program for Jewish older adults living in Burlington, Camden and Gloucester counties. There are now over 150 community members signed up, and the numbers continue to grow.
Envoy’s rides are particularly special as the drivers, known as Companion Drivers, are trained and equipped to work with older adults and their needs. They come to the members’ doors, help them get into the car, and can even assist with putting groceries away. Thanks to a grant from the Raymond & Gertrude R. Saltzman Foundation, subsidies may be available for those who qualify.
Michael, a current member of the program, raved about the experience. “I had to give up driving a couple of years ago, and within the past few months there was an ad about the driving program…And I just want to tell you it is absolutely fantastic,” he said. “It’s like I’m a new person. I’m not dependent on everyone. I can come and go as I please. The drivers have been fantastic.”
Now, for those who qualify, JFed Rides is offering unlimited, subsidized rides to doctors’ appointments and events and programs hosted by JFSNJ and our family of agencies. In addition, two additional subsidized rides are available per month to a place of the participant’s choosing, such as a hair appointment, shopping, synagogue, or social event.
