Federation launches new transportation program

The Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey has launched its new JFED Rides program to provide transportation to adults age 60 and older who are residents of Burlington, Camden, or Gloucester County.

JFED Rides is a partnership with Envoy America, the first national ridesharing service for older adults. Envoy’s highly-trained drivers can escort clients from their residences to the vehicle and take them to community events, doctors’ appointments, the store, shows, family gatherings, and so much more.

Through a generous grant from the Saltzman Foundation, rides are subsidized for those who qualify. Participants may pay only 25% of the cost of each trip or approximately $10 per hour.

“We’re thrilled to kick off this incredible service and with a trusted partner, Envoy America,” said Robyn Kaplan, executive director of Older Adults at the Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey. “Offering older adults this essential way to maintain their sense of independence is so important and JFED Rides is exactly what they have been asking for and deserve.”

Subsidized participants in the JFED Rides program can take up to four rides per month per household. Two of these four rides are dedicated for medical appointments, attending synagogue services, grocery shopping, and social outings. The remaining two rides are for trips to attend programs and events sponsored by JFED and its agencies, which may include Saltzman Foundation Life Long Learning Classes hosted by the JCC, various cultural events, participating in social programs at the Aleph Day Care Center, and attending various support groups offered by Samost Jewish Family & Children’s Service.
