Jewish Family Service hosting annual Turkey Drive

With Thanksgiving quickly approaching, Jewish Family Service is holding its annual Holiday Turkey Drive to provide families with turkeys and trimmings for their holiday table. While the holidays are a joyous time, many find it difficult to put a holiday meal on the table. Last year, JFS was able to provide meals to hundreds of families with the help of contributions from many local synagogues, schools, businesses, and community members.

There are many ways community members can help. The first is to donate a meal. A donation of $30 (or more) provides a family with a Butterball or Kosher turkey (upon request) plus the holiday trimmings.

Another way to help is to fill a bag. Each meal JFS provides is complete with a variety of side dishes. Fill a bag with one of each of the following: 1) macaroni and cheese; 2) stuffing; 3) mashed potatoes; 4) gravy; 5) cranberry sauce; 6) canned string beans; 7) canned corn; 8) yams (boxed). Along with each bag, a $20 donation allows the family to purchase a turkey to complete the meal. Gift cards to grocery stores are also welcome.

Yet another way to help is to host a drive. Are you a business, organization, community group, school, etc. that wants to give back to the community? Host your own drive to benefit the JFS Turkey Drive and feed local families in need.

JFS is also looking for volunteers to help sort donations at a Turkey Drive Food Check on Friday, Nov. 9, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Volunteers are also needed between now and November 14 to do Turkey Drive Pick-Ups from local businesses (mostly in Margate, Linwood, and Northfield).

To host a food drive for JFS, or to sign up, or learn more about volunteering at JFS, contact Sarah Lee at (609) 822- 1108, ext. 249 or slee@jfsatlantic.org.

To feed a family in need, donations can be mailed directly to JFS at 607 North Jerome Ave., Margate, NJ 08402 or made online at www.jfsatlantic.org.

Are you in need of a turkey or do you know someone who is? If so, please call (609) 822- 1108 and ask for an Intake representative. s
