Getting ready for another amazing year for SJR BBYO were (from left), Sophie Sable, Trudi Fleishman, Rebecca Sereboff, Jordan Wathstein, Jenna Shmukler, Lauren Petrone, and Remi Wiseblatt. Chapters in the South Jersey Region have been explosive over the past couple weeks, as they hosted their kickoff events to signify the start of the new programming year! Over 80 prospects, teens interested in joining BBYO, attended chapter kickoffs, and 40 new members have joined. SJR is ready to continue what is going to be an amazing year for the region.

In other news, on September 23rd, the second week of AZAA Football occurred with three extremely close games. Otzma AZA toppled Woodcrest AZA in overtime after a tight and intense second half. The Trojans of Chapel AZA are supporting Childhood Cancer Awareness this year by wearing the gold ribbon on their jerseys, and they are donating 10 percent of jersey sales to the charity. Truly a great mitzvah from the boys in black and red!

As the new programming year is in full gear, SJR is preparing for its first convention of the year! “RLTI: Building Our Future” is on October 12-14 at the beautiful Camp Kweebec in Schwenksville, PA (https://bit.ly/2E5qNZh). RLTI stands for “Regional Leadership Training Institute,” and is where members will be able to learn key leadership skills that they can use for the rest of their lives. These influential teens in the South Jersey Region are ready to make their mark on their community by taking the necessary steps in becoming leaders and building our future. In an ever-changing society, it is imperative that these teens know that they can make a difference and that they can shape their future any way they want to. It truly is a wonderful convention where members can make incredible memories with friends that will last a lifetime.

The price for this amazing weekend includes transportation, six meals, lodging, apparel, and an amazing speaker, Pam Schuller. SJR is also lucky to have both Eric Hunker and Happie Hoffman, two incredible song leaders in BBYO, who will help lead an amazing Shabbat, Havdalah, and other song sessions. We will also have the International N’siah (President), Noga Hurwitz, visiting us. We cannot wait for this convention to start, because it really is an amazing way to spend a weekend.

Also approaching in the BBYO community is signing up for International Convention! International Convention this year is taking place in Denver in February, and it is where teens from throughout the world meet up in the largest gathering of Jewish teens in the world! Teens who attended summer programs or any past international conventions will get to meet up once more with their friends from around the globe. Members who attend will make great friends from other regions as well as participate in fun and engaging programs throughout the convention. Last year, at International Convention in Orlando, SJR had a record breaking 92 teens attend!

There is so much going on in the area that is really exciting. SJR keeps growing with dedicated teens who are ready to make an impact in their communities!
