Federation Major Gifts Event set for Oct. 9 at Historical Society

The Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey will hold The Event for Major Gifts on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. This annual event is both an opportunity to thank and recognize major donors to the Jewish Federation family and to kick off the new year. Major gift households are those that make a $5,000 pledge to the Jewish Federation and its family of agencies. This year’s event is generously presented by Odell Studner Insurance Brokers & Consultants, and chaired by Dr. Stacy Lewin Farber and Daniel Farber.

The event this year will be held in Philadelphia at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, one of the nation’s most important special collections libraries. Its remarkable holdings and educational programming make it a center of historical documentation, study, education, and engagement. Guests will enjoy an elaborate cocktail reception in a beautiful space, as well as remarks by Izzy Ezagui—an American who had enlisted in the Israel Defense Forces at 19, and lost his arm in a mortar attack on the border of the Gaza Strip. When he returned to the battlefield, Ezagui became the world’s only one-armed Special Forces sharpshooter. In 2011, former President Shimon Peres awarded Ezagui one of Israel’s highest military honors, and The Algemeiner chose him as one of 100 people positively influencing Jewish life. Ezagui continues to serve in an elite unit in the reserves. His memoir, “Disarmed,” was released in March.

The Event for Major Gifts is sponsored this year by Odell Studner Insurance Brokers & Consultants at the Presenting level; Platt Memorial Chapels, Inc. at the Sapphire level; and Bowman & Company, LLP, Meri and Scott Seligman, Pennrose Properties, LLC, and Wolf Commercial Real Estate at the Emerald level.
