Barbara Rothschild passes at age 66, wrote for the Voice

Barbara S. Rothschild, a veteran reporter and longtime freelance writer for the Voice, died on July 12 at the age of 66. A Mount Laurel resident, she was active at Adath Emanu-El.

A meticulous journalist, she spent 32 years at the Courier- Post. During her career, she was part of a team that won a New Jersey Press Association Award for coverage of the Rabbi Neulander trial. She also served as the Courier-Post’s op-ed editor from 1993-2000. After retiring in 2012, she freelanced for a number of publications, including the Voice and Attitudes, the Voice’s lifestyle magazine.

“Barbara was a creative and talented writer who always made sure that the facts in her stories were correct,” said David Portnoe, Voice editor. He added that she also was a caring professional who enjoyed covering the Jewish community.

A graduate of Cherry Hill High School West and Glassboro State University (now Rowan), she also earned a master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania.

She was the beloved wife of Kevin Gonzalez and the devoted mother of Jill. She is also survived by a brother. s
