Brigantine shul hosts Klezmer Brunch July 15

Temple Beth Shalom (TBS) in Brigantine will be hosting a Klezmer Brunch on Sunday, July 15 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The brunch will feature Ed Goldberg & the Odessa Klezmer Band, who are returning to TBS for the second year in a row. Last year’s performance was a rollicking good time for all who attended, according to synagogue administrator Donna Jordan.

All are invited to attend and to bring friends and neighbors of all faiths to this community event. Those interested in attending should contact the TBS office at (609) 266-0403 to reserve. The brunch and performance costs $25 per person.

Klezmer, a musical tradition of Eastern European Jews, was originally played at weddings and other happy occasions. Around the turn of the 20th century, Eastern European Klezmer bands in the U.S. began assimilating American Jazz into their Eastern European melodies. Since the 1970s, there has been a revival of Klezmer music in both the United States and Eastern Europe.

Temple Beth Shalom is located at 4419 W. Brigantine Avenue. s
