Grandparenting 201: Grandkids with Special Needs

Aleph Home Care and the Jewish Abilities Alliance (JAA) will team up on Wednesday, May 30 from 12:30–2:30 pm at the Katz JCC for a special seminar on being a grandparent to a child with special needs. Led by guest speaker Dr. Todd Koser, Psy.D., Grandparenting 201: Grandkids with Special Needs will teach grandparents how to feel closer to their grandchild with special needs, how to be a go-to resource for their respective families, and how to have fun together!

This event is FREE and open to the community!

Guest speaker Dr. Koser specializes in working with children with autism, ADHD/ADD, intellectual disability, learning disabilities, and language problems. He believes that families are a very important part of helping and supporting children and works closely with parents and grandparents to make sure kids and teens get what they need to be happy and succeed.

“Grandparents are often overlooked in the support services for families,” Jennifer Arey, Special Needs Navigator and Grant Administrator, says. “You see a lot of groups for parents and some for siblings, but grandparents are overlooked. They frequently act as advocates, care givers, baby sitters, after school care, and sometimes are even parent/guardians for their grandchildren. They have many of the same struggles parents have in understanding their grandchild’s disabilities, and none of the resources to get the help they themselves need. This workshop aims to help with that.”
