The JCC in Margate is now holding an Israeli Film Series as part of this year’s Israel@70 celebration. The film series explores Israeli society through films that are humorous, inspiring, and controversial. Upcoming films are:

• “Past Life,” on Friday, May 11, at 10 a.m. This drama that takes place in the late 70s and tracks the daring odyssey of two sisters: an introverted classical musician and a rambunctious scandal-sheet journalist. The sisters unravel a shocking wartime mystery that has cast a dark shadow on their entire lives.

• “The Settlers,” on Tuesday, May 15, at 10 a.m. This documentary looks at the history of the Israeli settlements on the West Bank, exploring the origins of the settlements, the changes they have imposed on Israeli and Palestinian societies, and their impact on Middle Eastern and world affairs. While people often assume these settlers are xenophobic and/or religious zealots, little is known about the settlers’ personal beliefs and stories.

• “The Wedding Plan,” on Friday, May 18, at 10 a.m. This comedy is about a woman whose fiancé calls off their wedding a month before the ceremony. The woman decides to keep the reservation and trusts God will provide her with a husband.
