Get over winter blahs with Mahjong, brunch and lunch

Get in on this winter’s Mahjong mania in Margate! Get your game on and spring will be here in no time.

For those who have always wanted to play Mahjong or need a refresher, the JCC in Margate is now offering a five-week introductory class on Thursdays, 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., March 8 through April 5. Rinata Salzman, Margate’s Mahjong maven, will explain all the tiles, the basic moves and strategies to win. No mahjong experience or knowledge is required and a practice Mahjong set will be provided. The class costs $75 for JCC members and $100 for non-members.

Seasoned players will want to mark their calendars for upcoming Mahjong brunches and game days at the JCC and Beth El Synagogue.

The JCC will be offering its popular Mahjong Brunch on Thursday, March 1 (call ahead to see if space is available), and Wednesday, April 11, both at 10:30 a.m. Enjoy a tasty bagel brunch spread along with the chance to play Mahjong with many others in the community. There will also be lots of raffle prizes and fun. The event costs $18 for members and $22 for non-members (early bird rates are available for the April 11 brunch).

To register for JCC’s Mahjong classes or brunches, contact Josh Cutler at (609) 822- 1167, extension 138, or JCutler@jccatlantic.org.

Beth El Synagogue’s monthly Game Days offer yet another opportunity to play Mahjong, as well as many other games like Canasta and Scrabble (please bring your choice of game or plan to join someone else’s game). The next Beth El Game Day is March 13, at 12 noon. This fun afternoon costs $12, which includes lunch and snacks. For more information or to RSVP, contact Beth El at (609) 823- 2725. s
