Robots, ropes & more during JCC Camps Specialty Week

The JCC Camps at Medford will celebrate a first this year— the first year they are offering a specialty week of camp. The specialty week, Aug. 20 through Aug. 24, will provide intensive camp experiences dedicated to specific areas of interest. The specialties offered will include: Adventure challenge, Robotics 1 & 2, 3-D printing, drones, art, handwork and fashion design/machine sewing, football, culinary arts, and teenpreneur.

Each day will include transportation to camp and back from the Katz JCC, lunch, snack and ice cream. Class sizes will be limited and some age restrictions may apply. A daily camper schedule during this week will include: Specialty area, free swim, lunch, and choice of activity.

Beth Segal, JCC Camps at Medford director and JCC assistant director, said, “The kids asked for this kind of camp experience. They wanted a chance to go to camp and immerse themselves in an activity they really wanted to explore. We discovered what our specialty week would look like based on an email survey we sent to campers. The most popular specialty choices were how we decided our programming.

“Although I like all the specialties we’re offering, I’m excited to see what the teenpreneur campers will create. They will share ideas, present prototypes and even learn how to put together a business plan. The adventure challenge should also be great. Campers will hike, focus on archery and brave our ropes courses. I think overall, no matter which option campers choose, it will be an incredible week for them. They will get to dive deeper into areas they love.”
