JFCS welcomes Carlos Bermeo, new Counseling Dept. director

CARLOS BERMEO CARLOS BERMEO Samost Jewish Family & Children’s Service (JFCS) recently welcomed Carlos Bermeo, LCSW, NBCCH, as the JFCS director of clinical services. He has an extensive background working in nonprofit industries, providing therapeutic services to children, adolescents, adults, and families struggling with a variety of mental health and addiction issues. Bermeo believes that trust is essential to a successful therapeutic relationship, and is helping to spread the word that JFCS provides a safe, non-judgmental, accessible, and supportive environment for mental wellness.

“I find working with the community to be not only a rewarding experience, but a humbling one, as well,” said Bermeo. “Knowing that I am able to work as part of a team at JFCS, with people who so selflessly invest so much of themselves into helping the community at large, provides me with a great sense of pride. It drives me to evolve into a better version of myself, to help support our JFCS mission: ‘Caring for individuals with dignity and respect and helping people to help themselves.’”

Bermeo recently became certified as a clinical trauma professional and has trained on cognitive behavioral therapy and grief and bereavement therapy. His vast training and experience has allowed him to employ an eclectic approach to therapy, providing individualized, tailored support and treatment to each client’s needs by incorporating a variety of styles from psycho-dynamic to cognitive- behavioral. Since earning his graduate degree from Stony Brook University School of Social Welfare, Bermeo has continued to expand his clinical skills, receiving training from the NLP Center of New York in Eriksonian Hypnotherapy.

Bermeo is heading up the 2018 expansion of the JFCS Counseling Department, which boasts more clinicians, faster turnaround time for inquiries, flexible scheduling, new therapies such as hypnotherapy, and more.
