Last month, a corner of the JCC lobby steadily filled up with a dazzling array of presents for local children in need. This collection, called “Boxx for Tots,” is an annual tradition that was started by JCC professional boxing instructor and personal trainer Jon Simon.

“Collecting toys through my boxing classes began fourteen years ago when I saw that the Toys for Tots collection program in my area was not getting the attention it deserved,” Simon said. “So instead of collecting my usual fee for the boxing class that year, I told my participants to bring in a toy for the kids – because every kid needs a new toy.”

According to JCC chief operating officer Marg Rosenblatt, “Regardless of race, religion or national origin, we aim to reach the entire community in any way we can. We hope the toys collected and distributed help put a smile on many children’s faces.” s
