South Jersey gears up for community wide Israel 70 celebration on April 22

The Katz JCC, Cherry Hill will host a community wide celebration to commemorate the 70 th anniversary of Israel’s independence 12 – 4 p.m. Sunday, April 22. The entire community is invited to join in on the vibrant celebration that will bring to life the streets of Jerusalem and Israeli culture with vendors, food, entertainment, and interactive activities for all ages.

“This is an opportunity for the entire tri-county Jewish community to come together,” said Jaclynn Shweky, event co-chair. “There are lots of opportunities to be involved to make this a truly remarkable and memorable event. It’s a grassroots celebration of the Jewish homeland and a way to bring people of all ages together.”

A dedicated committee of community volunteers is working diligently to create an experience that feels as if Israel has been transported right to South Jersey. Highlights of the celebration will include a kickoff parade at 11:30 a.m., which will begin at Cherry Hill East High School and end at the Katz JCC where the entire event will take place. Groups of all ages and from any Jewish organizations are encouraged to participate in the parade and show their Israel pride.

A market place, which will be inspired by the bustling Ben Yehuda Street of Jerusalem, will be brought to life with musicians, dancers, magicians, jugglers, and a variety of street performers. Individuals with a talent to showcase or a group performances are encouraged to participate. Craft and food vendors will be in attendance to provide an authentic Israeli street fair experience.

A teen and kids committee will be creating stations and booths with age-specific engaging activities, all centered around Israel. A children’s area will include hands on interactive activities designed by the kids for the kids.

This community event will not be possible without the helping hands of dedicated volunteers, and will be needed to help with pre-event and day-of logistics. Families are encouraged to consider volunteering together!
