OBITUARIES

SIDNEY B. BAUMGARTEN, of Cherry Hill, passed away on Nov. 26. Husband of the late Anne Baumgarten. Father of Dr. Steven (Jacqueline) Baumgarten and Jill (Brooks) Crandall. Grandfather of Naomi (Michael) Landsman, David (Sara) Baumgarten, Sarah Baumgarten, Grant Crandall and Paige Crandall. Great-grandfather of Anna Landsman and Benjamin Baumgarten. DR. BERNARD S. “Bernie” GILBERT, 89, passed away on Nov. 17. Bernie was a podiatrist with a thriving practice for 48 years in Mount Holly, where he and his wife, Roslyn, lived for 58 years and raised their three children. He was an award-winning fencer and newspaper columnist for South Philadelphia High School, a graduate of Temple University, and a fellow of the Philadelphia College of Podiatric Medicine. Bernie was a Corporal in the US Army Medical Corps, where he served as a Medical Specialist during the Korean War. He was a president of Temple Har Zion in Mount Holly, where he was also a founding member and honored as a Lifetime Board Member. For many years, Bernie was also a proud and active member of the Mizpah-Haddon Heights Rising Sun Lodge #15 of the Free and Accepted Masons. Along with Roz, he was a volunteer usher at The Walnut Street Theater in Phila. Survived by his wife of 64 years, Roslyn; his children David, Lauren, and Steven and their spouses Hiroko, Andrew Wels, and Maria; his four grandchildren, Matthew and Erica Wels, and Jocelyn and Jessica Gilbert; his sister and brother-in-law Shirley and Lee Hymovitz, and his sister in-law and brother-in-law, Helene and Melvin Woda and their families.
