“Mensches with Wrenches’ help area seniors with projects

Over 50 men from the South Jersey Jewish community recently came together for a morning of mitzvot to benefit the residents of Jewish Senior Housing and Healthcare Service, an agency of the Jewish Federation. The men participated in handyman-type projects in the resident apartments and homes at Lions Gate, Saltzman House, Dubin House, and Gesher House, where they put up mezuzahs, moved furniture, built furniture, hung pictures, and did similar projects. The residents not only enjoyed the helping hand, but also the company. Residents said that they could not wait for the next “Mensches with Wrenches” program. Welcoming the “Mensches” were (top, from left), Jewish Federation President Glenn Fuhrman, Mensches with Wrenches Chair and Jewish Federation Board Member Matthew Podolnick, and Jewish Senior Housing CEO Susan Love. This project was initiated as part of Podolnick’s participation in the OnBoard Leadership fellowship program. Mensches with Wrenches (bottom photo) Ryan Lehrfeld and his son Kyle enjoyed a kick-off breakfast prior to the start of the day’s projects.
