JOHN LEWIS LASKEY, 59, passed away on October 14. He loved so many things in life, and his interests were diverse: coaching and refereeing soccer, the University of Virginia, Cape May, Disney World, family history, goofy comedies, country music, sipping daiquiris and watching the Eagles. But his biggest source of joy was his wife of 33 years, Kimberly, and their daughters, Lauren and Amanda.

The son of the late Herbert and Mina Laskey, John grew up in West Orange, NJ. After his father died unexpectedly in 1974, John lived at home to provide emotional support to his mother while attending Montclair State College. A few years later, while working as a paralegal in Arlington, VA, he first met Kim at a state Democratic convention. Once they started dating a couple of years later, while John was a law student at the University of Virginia, their love blossomed on long jogs together and over slices at Anna’s Pizzeria in Charlottesville. They married soon after John’s graduation. Following law school, John practiced bankruptcy law across NJ for more than 30 years, and served as a mediator for the NJ Superior Court. He was also a trustee of the Burlington County Bar Association.

While raising Lauren and Amanda with Kim in Cherry Hill, John shared his passions with his daughters. He coached their soccer teams in the South Jersey Girls Soccer League, an organization he helped run for years. He introduced them to the music of country singers and strong role models like Martina McBride and the Dixie Chicks. And while he supported their scholarly pursuits no matter what, he was very proud that both Lauren and Amanda attended and graduated from his beloved University of Virginia.

John is survived by his wife and daughters, daughter-in-law Whitney Hawkins, brother Jim and sister-in-law Mary Jacobson, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was very fond of his grand-cats, Buffy and Joy. Memorial contributions can be made to the ALS Association via www.alsa.org. PLATT MEMORIAL CHAPELS, Inc.
