As Federation’s fiscal year closes, please help us help others

Federation President

It’s hard to believe that summer is gone and the High Holidays have arrived. At this time of year, we reflect and take stock of the year that has passed, and take the opportunity to look to the future. Here at the Jewish Federation, the High Holidays coincide with the close of one fiscal year on September 30 and the start of a new one, and this means that we are fast approaching our deadline to meet our JFund goal for this year.

Your gift to JFund provides the necessary dollars that support our family of agencies, who in turn provide the programs, services, and events our community has come to both love and depend on. Your gift to JFund may mean a hot meal delivered to a homebound older adult, emergency help to a struggling family, a week or two at the JCC Camps at Medford for a young child, and helping an individual with special needs meet his or her potential. And abroad, your dollars translate into support for Jews in Israel and around the world.

If you’ve already made your gift to JFund for 2017, thank you so much. Please imagine for a moment the impact we could make if you could increase your gift by just a little. If every one of our current donors dug a little deeper to pledge $18 more, we would raise an additional $129,600 for JFund. Increasing your gift by $54, barely a dollar a week, would result in an additional $388,800.

I guarantee you those dollars would be put to good work. I imagine more programs to enrich the minds and bodies of our older adults; job training for people with special needs to achieve their highest potential; and dollars to provide safety, security, and well being for those at risk in Israel and throughout our global community. With those dollars, I imagine my dream turning into reality for more community engagement to foster meaningful relationships within our Jewish community and among people of all faiths and cultures. I imagine more social services for families and youth struggling with hunger, and in need of counseling and financial assistance.

As with every year, the remaining dollars to close a campaign are always the most challenging to obtain. Be a hero to everyone referenced above, and make an impact by either giving a gift today or considering an increase. If you are able to do so, please give today at jewishsouthjersey.org/jfund.

As we work to successfully close our JFund campaign for 2017, we are also working on our allocations process. This process includes looking back over the past year at our successes and planning for more success in the coming year. The allocations process enables us to look forward to the future and to most efficiently and wisely allocate the dollars that you, our community have so generously given. Together, we make a great team and I’d like to thank each and every one of you, our generous supporters, volunteers, and participants, for being a part of it.

I feel as though the Jewish Federation, its family of agencies, and this community is my large, extended second family. So on behalf of my Federation family and personally, I would like to wish each and every one of you and your loved ones a Shanah Tovah, a happy, healthy, and a sweet New Year. On behalf of my Jewish Federation family, both they and I look forward to continuing to be there for you this year—to laugh together, to cry together and most importantly to join together as a community, so that no one need face the daily ups and downs and challenges of life alone.
