Stangers and Bernhardts honored at Chabad Gala Aug 20

Gail and Doug Stanger will receive Chabad’s Jewish Leadership Award. Gail and Doug Stanger will receive Chabad’s Jewish Leadership Award. Chabad at the Shore will hold its 5th Annual Summer Gala on Sunday, August 20, at 6:30 p.m. at the Chabad Chai Center, 6605 Atlantic Avenue in Ventnor. This year’s event honors Doug and Gail Stanger and Greg and Jodi Bernhardt. It will feature elaborate cocktails, appetizers, and desserts as well as a special video presentation.

Gail and Doug Stanger will receive the Jewish Leadership Award. Both have taken on leadership roles in many community organizations since moving to the shore 35 years ago and are the consummate volunteers.

Doug is currently executive vice chair of the Philadelphia Region of the Anti-Defamation League and has held many other volunteer roles within the Jewish community. His local office became the first site for Chabad’s Lunch and Learn program started eleven years ago. He is a graduate of Yeshiva University’s Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law.

Jodi and Greg Bernhardt will receive Chabad’s Chessed Award. Jodi and Greg Bernhardt will receive Chabad’s Chessed Award. Gail, a former special education teacher, has a master’s degree in Holocaust and Genocide Studies from Stockton University. She also organized and led four Stockton study tours through Eastern Europe. Gail also served as volunteer education director for the Annual Scholars Conference on the Holocaust and the Churches.

Gail and Doug are the proud parents and parents-in-law of Alana Weinberg, Dr. Aaron Weinberg, Aliyah Furman Stanger and Ari Stanger, and have 4 grandchildren.

Greg and Jodi Bernhardt exemplify the quality of chessed through their involvement in many Jewish causes. Accordingly, they will receive Chabad at the Shore’s Chessed Award. Greg and Jodi live in New York City and spend their summers at the shore. They are active participants in Chabad at the Shore during summers and of Chabad of the West 60’s in New York City during the remainder of the year. Greg was formerly an officer at the Westside Institutional Synagogue in Manhattan.

The Bernhardt’s 11-year-old son, Hunter, will be going into 6th grade at Manhattan’s Park East Day School, where Jodi has long been an active member of the parent association board. Greg’s daughter, Justine, a recent graduate of the Cardozo School of Law, is engaged to be married.

Greg has a Ph.D. from New York University and in 2011`founded AscendHire, a personnel placement firm, where he makes a difference in the lives of his clients and the success of the companies in need of new hires. Jodi, who has a B.A. from University of Wisconsin-Madison, is currently an executive vice president at AscendHire.
