Third year a success for Life & Legacy program

For the third consecutive year, the Southern New Jersey Jewish community has shown its resounding commitment to supporting the future, via the Life & Legacy initiative of the Harold Grinspoon Foundation.

With the objective of increasing legacy giving to local Jewish Federation agencies, synagogues, and day schools, the Jewish Community Foundation, Inc. provides support in enabling donors to establish current or after lifetime gifts to benefit each participating organization’s Life & Legacy endowment fund. By contributing to an endowment fund, a legacy donor ensures an annual income stream benefiting any selected organization for future generations.

Collectively, at least 15 participating organizations met or exceeded the community goals for the year. Each organization that met its own goals will receive between $2,500 and $3,600 as an incentive grant, to be used as each recipient organization sees fit.

In total, since April 1, 2014, nearly 800 legacy commitments have been secured by more than 500 donors, resulting in an estimated sum of nearly $20 million in future expected endowment assets. Compared to the more than 40 communities across the country that are participating in Life & Legacy, the SNJ community has received the most commitments— an impressive feat— and the entire JCF Board and staff would like to thank all of the legacy donors for their generous support of the community’s future.

Also for the third straight year, the JCF will host a celebratory event for Life & Legacy participants, in collaboration with the Katz JCC for its “Night at the Katzkills” program on June 11. Any community member who has made a legacy commitment via Life & Legacy can attend at no cost ($36 value). The evening will include Helene Masiko performing as Joan Rivers, lively dance music by the Kosher Jazz Trio, and a Catskills-themed dinner.
