Enhancing the quality of life for special needs

The Jewish Federation and its family of agencies are committed to enhancing the quality of life for individuals with special needs. We believe everyone should have the opportunity to achieve their highest potential, and lead independent and fulfilled lives as members of our South Jersey community.

For someone like Joey, Jewish Federation programming helped to find the perfect job. Joey is a graduate of the JFCS Soups & Sweets Special Needs Culinary Training Program. He recently received an Employee of the Month award from his employer, Chef Victor Martin of Ambrosia Treatment Centers. Chef Martin said, “Joey was hired at Ambrosia Treatment Center in April of 2016. He arrived at this job with many challenges, but he never gave up. Every day his light shined a little brighter. Since then, Joey has risen to every challenge and always tries his hardest. At this point, Joey has become a big part of our staff and crew. His potential is limitless and I’m very proud of his growth and excited for his future.”

For someone like Sarah (name changed to protect her privacy), Jewish Federation programming helped to give meaning. Sarah’s mother shared, “For the first time during the 17 years since my daughter was diagnosed, I feel our lives are moving forward. The enthusiasm and warmth displayed by both the organizers and participants at the JCC have provided a much-needed social and spiritual foundation for my daughter’s life. When the JCC claims, ‘You belong here,’ it might not imagine how much those words mean both to individuals with special needs and their families.”

Special needs programming is just the start of building a strong and vibrant Jewish community. Together, we make an IMPACT.
