Women philanthropists leading the way in our Jewish community

FEDERATION 411
JENNIFER DUBROW WEISS
Jewish Federation CEO

Women philanthropists are the change-makers and community shapers of the world. We are sisters and daughters, mothers and friends, compassionate and committed women at every stage of life and career. Through the Jewish Federation, Women’s Philanthropy engages Jewish women in the fulfilling work of making the world a better place—building and supporting Jewish life for today and for generations to come.

Throughout the country, $189-million is donated by women to Federation annual campaigns. Further proof that when women come together in the name of tzedakah, they exercise their power to make an impact through giving.

Leading Women’s Philanthropy with pride are the Lions of Judah—the most dynamic philanthropic Jewish women in the world. Strong women of all ages, an international sisterhood of thousands of global activists who care deeply about the Jewish future. Lions play a vital role in creating social justice, aiding the vulnerable, preserving human dignity, and building Jewish identity. They are women who make a minimum annual donation of $5,000 to our JFund campaign — and lead their peers through generosity, strength, and vision.

Our Lions get together throughout the year for a variety of social and recreational activities. Already on the calendar for this year are: The Art of Zentangle on March 1, JCC Film Festival “Breakfast at Ina’s” on March 22, a theatre trip and dinner at Zahav on May 16, a luncheon with Café Europa on June 22, and Summer at the Shore on July 14. Lions, stay tuned for more info on all these events and more!

Some of our Lions of Judah also participate in our Jewish Women’s Foundation (JWF), a committee of the Funds Development Board of the Jewish Federation in partnership with the Jewish Community Foundation, Inc. JWF brings positive change to the lives of Jewish women and girls in South Jersey and around the world—positive change in the form of funding for programs focused on education, self-esteem and empowerment, health, leadership, and Jewish identity. Letters of Intent are due this Friday, February 3. For more info, visit jcfsnj.org/jwf.

We have two big women’s events coming up this spring: An evening with Laura Gutin Peterson and our annual Event for Women. Laura Gutin Peterson is a writer and producer, known most recently for her work on Black-ish and The Carmichael Show. Save the date for a dessert reception with Laura on March 28! Women who make a minimum household gift of $365 are invited to attend.

We’re still finalizing details for The Event for Women, but it promises to be a can’t-miss event again this year! Most recently, we’ve had Gloria Steinem, Melissa Rivers, and Linor Abargil—all amazing women and amazing speakers. Save the date for The Event for Women on May 18. More details coming soon for both of these events!

Together, we make an IMPACT: On older adults, individuals with special needs, and families and youth; in Israel and in 90 other countries around the world; through community engagement right here in South Jersey. Ninety percent of every dollar donated goes directly to programming and services. Every dollar makes a difference. Learn more at jewishsouthjersey.org.
