Jewish Federation supporting our older adults

Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey is committed to enriching both the minds and bodies of the older adults living within our community. The support services provided by our family of agencies enable seniors to age in place.

For someone like Catherine, putting food on the table had never been a struggle before. She had worked most of her life and never imagined a time would come when she wouldn’t be able to provide for herself. But now, at 71 and alone with no family nearby, she found herself relegated to a wheelchair after a back injury and facing mounting medical bills. So she turned to the Jewish Federation’s JFCS agency for food.

“Many times, I have to use my money to make the bill collectors happy—and I don’t have much left for food,” she said. “It’s scary that at my age, after working most of my life, that buying food to survive is such a struggle. JFCS helps me live the best possible life I can.”

Meanwhile, we are also proud of social and cultural programming that promotes Jewish heritage and values, to keep seniors in the community engaged.

Like Harvey, who enjoys classes on opera, yoga, and Yiddish, while taking part in a movie series that served as an excellent way to continue his passion for learning while meeting other members of the community.

Harvey said he is “very fond” of the programming available through Jewish Federation and continues to be “impressed” by the offerings that are created every year.

It is our job to be advocates for EVERY Jewish community, both near and far. Together, we make an IMPACT.
