OBITUARIES

MICHAEL D. RAND, 86, formerly of Kfar Vradim, Israel, Camas, WA, Anchorage, AK, Cherry Hill and Phila., passed away on Sept. 27 in Jerusalem, Israel. Husband of the late Janice (nee Kurs). Father of Susan (Judah) Rand-Lakritz, Lisa (Reid) Kramer, Sharon Leedon and Joe (Barbara) Rand, and stepfather of Evie (Steve) Moorhouse and Bill (Debra) Berlin. He is also survived by grandchildren Keren (Eric) Yudkovich, Shira (Ilan) Haber, Eytan Rand-Lakritz, Robert Kramer, Netta Leedon, Yaniv Leedon, Stephanie (Aaron) Frazin, Samantha Rand and great-grandsons Yair and Noam. He grew up at Har Zion Temple, Wynnefield, was an active member of Cong. Beth El, South Jersey, and a founding member of Cong. Shomrei Ohr, Anchorage, AK. A retired CPA, he was an accomplished sailor and an avid amateur radio operator. He was a graduate of Overbrook High School and Temple University. SYLVIA SUSHMAN, 96, of Milwaukee, formerly of Willingboro, NJ, passed away on Sept. 17. She helped found Kibbutz Hatzor in pre-state Israel. She graduated from Western High School in Baltimore, MD in 1938. In her fifties she returned to school and became an LPN and some years later a RN. Her spouse Benjamin Sushman died in 2002. Mother of Israel Sushman (Nancy Murray), Jonah Sushman, who preceded her in death in 2012, Miriam Sushman (Owen Goldin) and Reuben Sushman. Grandchildren are Joshua Sushman and Esther Goldin.
