Events to support Special Needs Coalition

For its third consecutive year, South Jersey will be a participating member of the International Shabbos Project. The Shabbos Project was introduced in South Africa in 2013. The concept was simple: Having Jews of all walks of life, from across the spectrum—religious, secular and traditional; young and old, from all corners of the world—uniting to experience one full Shabbos together.

This year’s celebration will feature a women’s Challah Bake, Thursday Nov. 10 at Temple Emanuel. The event starts at 7 p.m. Advance tickets are $18, or you can purchase tickets at the door for $25. Girls under the age of 12 are $12.

This year will also feature a “Havdalah/Dinner/Dance” celebration on Saturday, Nov. 12 at the Katz JCC. The program begins at 7:30 p.m., and will feature performances from OLAM, STAV, and the West Side Band.

As an added initiative for this year, The Shabbos Project has partnered with The Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey and its Special Needs Coalition, with a portion of the monies raised this year going to the Coalition.

The event will also honor several women of the community who have provided and continue to provide time and effort in supporting the special needs program and the community. The honorees include: Deb Whitman Berger, Felice Friedman, Betty Girlya, Susan J. Levine, Ann Miller, Linda Newman, Alise Panitch, and Federation CEO Jennifer Dubrow Weiss. All honorees will participate in the Challah Bake, and a special presentation will be made to each of them during the evening.

Both events are open to members of all the local congregations, organizations, and the general public.
