HOWARD BERGER, 90, a veteran area journalist and broadcaster, died peacefully on June 24 surrounded by his family. Berger, who was born in the Bronx, lived on Absecon Island since the 1930s, when his parents Ralph and Bella moved to Ventnor to open the area’s first Jewish delicatessen, Berger’s Deli. Berger worked as news director for WFPG and then WMID, and wrote a popular column for the Jewish Record and Jewish Times called “Honorable Menschen”. He also served as press officer for the then Atlantic City Medical Center, and chaired the Atlantic County Senior Citizens Advisory Board for many years. Berger is survived by his wife Charlotte (nee Selkow), daughters Eve Dryer, Arlene Gordon, Lori D’Alessio, Valerie Maffia, Ellyn Yishai, Jody Selkow, 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
