Gearing up for OnBoard Israel mission

The Legacy Heritage OnBoard Program is an exciting opportunity for two of our newest board members to participate in a program that wraps leadership training into and around a mission trip to Israel. Matthew Podolnick and Melissa Grossman are representing the Jewish Federation in this program, which focuses on board development and shaping the leaders who will shepherd Jewish communal organizations over the next decades.

With three sessions down and just two more to go before their mission trip with OnBoard to Israel, Matthew and Melissa report they are gaining valuable insight into being members of the Jewish Federation board. The program has proven to be a great networking tool to meet with other board members of Jewish community organizations, and provides both practical and theoretical learning on topics relating to common board matters. Already, they have delved deeply into reading and understanding budgets—and how a budget is really a plan for what any given nonprofit finds important—and strategic planning to better define who and what the nonprofit is to its community and constituents.

Melissa added that the Jewish Federation does a lot right. When sharing what programming we’re already doing, like the Federation Leadership Institute (FLI), with the OnBoard trainers and other participants, the response is often “that’s a great idea!”

We look forward to hearing more from Matthew and Melissa after their mission to Israel in February!
