ANNA COHEN, of Cherry Hill, passed away on Mar. 4. Wife of the late Irving Cohen. Mother of Katz JCC Director Les (the late Cindy) Cohen, and the late Jerome Cohen. Grandmother of Jeff (Stacey) Cohen, Stephanie Cohen and Jessica (Charissa Nosenzo) Cohen. Great-grandmother of Sierra and Emery. BEATRICE “BEA” JAIVEN HEINE, 94, passed away on Mar. 1. Born February 14, 1922 to parents who came from Russia, Bea grew up in Connecticut where she graduated from Stamford High School prior to receiving her Bachelor’s degree at Southern Connecticut State Teachers College followed by a Master’s degree from Columbia University and her Doctoral degree in education from Temple University. She met her husband, the late Joseph Heine of Camden, on a cruise. They were blessed with two daughters and enjoyed nearly 34 years of happy marriage until Bea was widowed at age 65. Bea was a beloved role model and mentor for her daughters, Arline Heine and Marilyn Heine (Arlin) Silberman. She is survived by her sister, Gladys Young, and pre-deceased by her brothers Dr. Saul Jaiven and Leon Jaiven. In high school, she was recognized for being the top student in French in her graduating class. In Stamford, she directed a large production of “The Women” and taught Sunday school and high school. In her younger years, she worked as a hotel cashier at New England resorts, enjoyed singing at special events, later was a travel agent, and for many years played bridge. She was an accomplished seamstress who made her daughters’ Bat Mitzvah dresses. She is best known professionally for decades as an educator in elementary school, primarily for Haddon Township’s fifth grade and later at the college level for teacher education with a focus on mathematics. BETTE ANNE ROSEN (NEE GOLD), 86, of Boonton Twp., passed away on Feb. 28. Predeceased by her husband Leon, brother Arthur and sister Bobbi, she is survived by daughters Linda Maurer of Cherry Hill (Henry) and Robin Soll of Marlton (David), and son Henry (Debra); 5 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. Bette was born Dec. 14, 1929 in Orange, NJ to Bernice and Louis Gold. She grew up in South Orange and lived in Livingston for over 40 years. Mrs. Rosen received her Bachelor’s degree from Douglass College (Rutgers University) and her Master’s degree from Seton Hall University. She was an English teacher at Webster Junior High School in Newark, and then became a guidance counselor at both Webster Junior High School and Newark East Side High School for over 30 years. After retiring, she was a substitute teacher in the Livingston school system. Mrs. Rosen was a member of Oheb Shalom Congregation in Newark and South Orange for over 40 years. She was bat-mitzvah at a later age at Oheb Shalom.

MOLLIE SHAPIRO, 91, of Brick, passed away on Mar. 3. Born in Perth Amboy, she settled in Lakewood in 1951, later moving to Brick. Mollie was a secretary in the Lakewood school district for many years and retired in 1989. She served as President of the Lakewood Schools PTA multiple times. In addition, she was President of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Jewish War Veterans at the local and county level, served as Lakewood Twp. Committee member, worked for the Lakewood Election Board, was President of the Greenbriar Hadassah Chapter and honored as a Hadassah Lights recipient. Mollie was a long time member of Ahavat Shalom, Lakewood, now Ahavat Olam, Howell. Predeceased by her parents, Samuel and Freida Beldengreen and her beloved husband, Sidney (1984); she is survived by daughter, Roberta Richmond and husband, Louis of Lakewood; daughter, Marilyn Breggar and husband, Michael of Cherry Hill; and grandchildren Seth, Stephanie and Scott.
