Thank you to our great Super Sunday chairs and to our entire community

Jewish Federation CEO

As we wrap up Super Week tomorrow, I want to thank our Super Sunday/Week Chairs who have worked so hard to make this year another resounding success. This event is no small task, and Alison and Scott Schulman and Nikki and Adam David did an incredible job in bringing it all together!

Along with Alison, Scott, Nikki, and Adam, I’d also like to thank our Super Sunday/ We e k Committee, our staff, our board, and all of the volunteers who have come out (and are still coming out) to make the call. Super Sunday/Week is such an important week here for us at the Jewish Federation. It’s our biggest fundraiser of the year, bringing in so many of the dollars we raise for the entire year.

And this is why I love Super Sunday. Everyone coming together for one common goal: Raising dollars for the programming and services that make our South Jersey Jewish community— and other Jewish communities all around the world— thrive. Dollars that put food on the table of a family struggling to make ends meet. Dollars that connect generations through joint teen and senior programming.

Dollars that take a stand for peace and harmony through advocacy initiatives. Dollars that make our community vibrant and strong.

The Jewish Federation and our family of agencies have an enormous impact on our community. Just last year, JFCS provided $889,000 worth of support services to Holocaust survivors in Camden, Burlington, Gloucester, and Cumberland Counties, enabling them to maintain their independence and age in place in their own homes. The Open Hearts/Open Doors program has seen 1,850 children with special needs attend the JCC Camps at Medford since its inception in 1993. There are 732 Hebrew school students in our South Jersey community who participate in Gift of Israel, a matching savings program between the Jewish Federation, the family, and the synagogue, that helps them afford a trip to Israel. And, our overseas partner, The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), helped 15,000 seniors and 8,000 children survive a bitter winter in the poorest communities, some of which have no gas supply or running water. The dollars raised during Super Sunday/Week help to fund these programs and so much more.

When we work together, we can accomplish amazing things. Just one phone call during Super Sunday/Week can bring in a pledge that will change a person’s life. Imagine what hundreds, even thousands, of phone calls can do. The Jewish Federation doesn’t just raise money. It builds community. It provides support. It becomes a resource.

So thank you for being a part of Super Sunday/Week. Whether you were making the call or answering the call, you are an everyday hero. . jweiss@jfedsnj.org
