Steven Flatow to headline October 29 event

The Jewish Federation is pleased to announce The Event for Major Gifts on Thursday, Oct. 29. This annual event is both an opportunity to thank and recognize our major donors to the Jewish Federation family and the kick-off to our new campaign year. Major donors to the Jewish Federation family are individuals or households who give a minimum of $5,000 to JFund and/or any of the Jewish Federation agencies. Chaired by Mark and Margery Dannenbaum and Robert and Betsy Schwartz, this year’s Event for Major Gifts features guest speaker Stephen Flatow on celebrating Jewish unity, continuity, and identity.

Flatow’s daughter Alisa died in the spring of 1995 as a result of injuries sustained during a terrorist attack when studying in Israel. Acting under U.S. law, he and his family sued the Islamic Republic of Iran as the sponsor of the terrorist attack, and three years later he obtained a damage award of $247.5-million. He is an attorney and father of five, and has been involved in Jewish communal affairs for many years. He is a founder and immediate past president of Congregation Ohr Torah in West Orange, NJ, and a member of the board of trustees of Bat Torah Academy in Suffern, NY, which was named The Alisa M. Flatow Yeshiva High School in honor of his daughter.

The Event for Major Gifts is sponsored this year by Platt Memorial Chapels, Inc. and Freedom Mortgage at the Gold level, and by Leon L. Levy & Associates, PCA Industrial & Paper Supplies, ResinTech Inc., and Susquehanna Bank at the Silver level. On the event committee is Stephanie Cahn, Rabbi Jerome David, Peggy David, Stacy Lewin Farber, Alan Feldman, Miriam Feldman, Jeff Gottlieb, Laura Gottlieb, Alison Bell Keim, and Judy Love.
