OBITUARIES

MORTON K. WEITZ, of Cherry Hill, passed away on Mar. 16. Husband of Edith Weitz. Father of Scott (April) Weitz and Russ (Merle) Weitz. Grandfather of Robin, Rachel, Erica, Jenna and Austin Weitz. The Middle East Institute also featured the presentation of the JCRC Israel Advocacy Award to Eva and Marvin Schlanger. In presenting the award, Dr. Robert Benedon, last year’s recipient, described the Schlangers as passionate advocates for Israel who lead by example. “I want to thank Eva and Marv for the many mitzvot they have performed on behalf of the state of Israel,” said Benedon.

Funds raised during the Middle East Institute are slated to support teen Israel advocacy education. In accepting the Israel Advocacy Award, Marvin Schlanger spoke about the threats Israel is facing on college campuses by BDS supporters and others. He described the situation as morphing into anti- Semitism.

Marvin Schlanger then introduced Sam Snyder, a former StandWithUs MZ teen intern, who took the stage with a group of local teenagers who have benefitted from Israel advocacy training. Snyder spoke about how he had learned to stand up for Israel, and he encouraged those present to support JCRC Israel advocacy programs. .
