Local woman elected national Brith Sholom pres.
Gloria Geltzer, a resident of Voorhees, has been elected as president of the National Order of Brith Sholom. She is the first woman to be elected to the national presidency in the history of Brith Sholom, which has been in existence since 1906.
Brith Sholom established the Brith Sholom House, as a senior residence, in Philadelphia in 1962 and has been instrumental in establishing the Beit Halochem, a rehabilitation center for Israel’s disabled veterans in Haifa, Israel.
The organization helped to rescue 50 children from Nazi oppression in the early 1940s. This effort has been documented in an HBO movie, “50 Children: The Rescue Mission of Mr. and Mrs. Kraus,” narrated by Alan Alda. The film was nominated for an Emmy Award.
