OBITUARIES

NORMA BENIMOFF, of Marlton, died on Jan. 26. Wife of the late Dr. Murray Benimoff. Mother of Dr. Alissa (Dr. James) Fox and Dr. Nicholas (Elizabeth) Benimoff. Grandmother of three. She graduated from the Ohio State Univ. and was a professor at Camden County College for many years. MILDRED BORSTEIN, of Cherry Hill, died on Feb. 10. Wife of the late Isadore Borstein. Mother of Alan Borstein and Leon Borstein. Grandmother of four and greatgrandmother of eight.

YETTA BURSACK, of Robbinsville, died on Jan. 25. Wife of the late Michael Bursack. Mother of Barnet Bursack and Jeffrey Bursack. Grandmother of five and greatgrandmother of eight.

LARRY CARDONICK, of Cherry Hill, died on Feb. 8. Husband of Charlotte (nee Lev) Cardonick. Father of Jennifer (Glenn) Walker, Amy (Matthew) Cohn and Dan (Leticia) Cardonick. Brother of Ellen Cardonick. Grandfather of three. He played football at Olney High School and Temple Univ. He played with the Canadian Football League with the Sarnia Golden Bears for three seasons. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a special education teacher for 42 years, teaching in Collingswood and Cherry Hill. Mr. Cardonick was a member of the Jewish Sports Hall of Fame at the Gershwin Y in Phila., and was also a member of the Jewish Basketball League. He was inducted into the Penn State Hall of Fame for football and worked as an assistant football coach at Cherry Hill West High School. He owned a scrap metal cleaning business and cleaned for Goldberg’s Metals in Phila. and Denwalt Metals in Audubon as well as Apple Vending Company. Contributions can be made to Cong. M’kor Shalom.

GUSSIE CLARKE, of Marlton, died on Jan. 31 one month short of her 99th birthday. Wife of the late Fred Clarke. Mother of Alan (Mayda) Clarke and the late Jerry Clarke. Grandmother of five and greatgrandmother of 11. Contributions can be made to Temple Emanuel or Samaritan Hospice.

AARON DENENBERG, 89, of Cherry Hill, died on Jan. 26. Husband for 66 years of Selma. Father of Nancy (Steve Osder) Denenberg, JoAnne Denenberg, Jill Denenberg and the late Billie (John Mellencamp) Denenberg. Grandfather of seven and greatgrandfather of eight.

GERTRUDE DOBKIN, of Cherry Hill, died on Feb. 11. Wife of the late Leon Dobkin. Mother of Bruce (Gayle) Dobkin and Diane Dobkin. Sister of Alvin Pressman. Grandfather of one.

GAIL FENDRICK, of Voorhees, died on Feb. 2. Wife of Fuzzy Fendrick. Mother of Mark (Caren) Fendrick, Jeff (Stephanie) Fendrick, Doug (Mindy) Fendrick, Sharon Fendrick and Alison (Adam) Coyne. Sister of Ira Brand. Grandmother of 11. She was born in Brooklyn, NY and graduated Brooklyn College. SUE FRIEDMAN, of Cherry Hill, Boca Raton, FL and Margate, died on Jan. 31. Wife of the late Sidney Friedman. Mother of Lori (Ian Freeman) Friedman and Wendi Friedman. Sister of Ned Mansbach.

ARNOLD GOLDMAN, of Ventnor City, died on Feb. 10. Husband of Eileen Goldman. Father of Dr. Gary (Sandy) Goldman and Cathy (Dr. Mart) Amick. Grandfather of four and great-grandfather of four.

ROSE GROSS, of Phila., died on Feb. 2. Wife of the late William “Bill” Gross. Mother of Selina (the late Dr. Kenneth) Barnett, Marilyn (Rabbi Alvin) Mars and Deborah (Philip) Zuchman. Sister of Helen Lerner. Grandmother of eight and great-grandmother of 22.

MICHAEL HERSH, of New York, NY, formerly of Cherry Hill, died on Feb. 5. Father of Zachary Hersh. Son of Etta and Jerald Hersh. Brother of Caryn (Vicki Ramming) Hersh. Husband of Allison Hersh.

ARLENE NEWMAN, of Clifton, VA, formerly of Cherry Hill, died on Jan. 28. Wife of the late Jerome L. Newman. Mother of Carol (Mark) Weiss and Brenda (Scott) Samlin. Grandmother of six.

CHERYL ROTH, of Mt. Laurel, died on Feb. 5. Wife of William Roth. Mother of Bryan (Michele Hogan) Roth and Evan Roth. Sister of Myron Goldman and Lori Janiger. Grandmother of three.

E. WILLIAM SPITZ, of Cherry Hill, died on Jan. 30. Husband of Jean Spitz. Father of Janet Kretchner and Robert Spitz. Grandfather of eight and great-grandfather of five. Dr. Spitz attended Ohio State Univ. and graduated from Rutgers Univ. and the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. He was admitted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and went on to become a life member. Dr. Spitz served as a subchairman of the local United Fund and was a Past Director of the Reading Jewish Community Center. He served as chairman of the Berks County Welfare Dept. for five years and was on the Mayor’s advisory committee. Contributions can be made to Cong. M’kor Shalom or the Katz JCC.

AILEEN WEISMAN, of Tucson, AZ, died on Feb. 1. Wife of the late Theodore “Teddy” Weisman. Mother of Dr. Steven (Susan) Weisman and Dr. Harold (Connye) Weisman. Grandmother of five. Contributions can be made to Hadassah.

HELEN WOLK, 91, of Minnesota, died on Feb. 8. Wife of Leo Wolk. Mother of Joyce (Alan) Branfman of Cherry Hill and Michael Wolk. Grandmother of two. She attended Oklahoma Univ., where she was a Phi Beta Kappa, served as president of her sorority and was awarded the Da’s Day award, which is given to an outstanding female graduate. She was an accomplished ballerina and was a docent at the Minneapolis Institute of the Arts. She was the president of the Minneapolis chapter of the National Council of Jewish Women and was recognized with the Hannah G. Solomon Award, given for leadership and service.

DR. LAWRENCE ISRAEL WOLTHER, of Cherry Hill, died on Feb. 7. Husband of Brenda S. Wolther. Father of Glenn A. Wolther, Esq., and Howard K. Wolther. Dr. Wolther was a Veteran of the U.S. Army.

SONYA ZELMANOVICH, of Cherry Hill, died on Feb. 1. Wife of Dmitrii Zelmanovich. Mother of Mitchell Zelmanovich and Blanche Zelmanovich. Brother of Yosef Markovitz. Contributions can be made to the Children of the Jewish Holocaust Survivors Assoc., P.O. Box 1127, Jenkintown, PA, 19046.
