Final preparations underway for annual phone-a-thon

Final details are being completed for the Jewish Federation’s annual community-wide phone-a-thon, Super Sunday, set for Sun. Jan. 29 from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Katz Jewish Community Center in Cherry Hill. Super Week will follow, running Jan. 30-Feb. 2 from 6-9 p.m. at the offices of the Jewish Federation, located on the second floor of the Katz JCC.

Super Sunday is the Jewish Federation’s largest fundraising event to benefit its Annual Campaign. On that one day, hundreds of volunteers will come together to build community and help repair the world using the buttons of a telephone.

“Super Sunday/Super Week is an incredible event, as it is the premier fundraising effort to benefit the Jewish Federation’s Annual Campaign,” said Julia Roberts, Super Sunday co-chair with Albert ElGrissy. “The dollars raised during these five days provide the crucial resources needed by our local agencies and overseas partners to help thousands of people in need in our community and around the world.”

ElGrissy added that the success of Super Sunday relies heavily on the involvement of the entire community. “We invite everyone to invest just three hours as a Super Sunday/Super Week volunteer,” said ElGrissy. “You’ll feel so good about helping so many people.”

Four volunteer shifts will be held on Super Sunday—Shift 1: 9:30 a.m.- 12 noon; Shift 2—12 noon-2:30 p.m.; Shift 3— 2:30 p.m.-5 p.m., and Shift 4—5:30-8 p.m. Pre-teens and teens, ages 11 and up, may volunteer to perform various clerical duties during Shift 3. Teens, ages 15 and up, may also volunteer to make phone calls during Shift 3.

Community members representing the Federation and its agencies, area synagogues, Jewish organizations, and youth groups are strongly encouraged to volunteer to make phone calls, assist with clerical duties and babysitting for Super Sunday/Super Week.

All volunteers on Super Sunday are encouraged to bring non-perishable, kosher food and personal care items to the Katz JCC, which will be collected and distributed to the Peter & Betsy Fischer Food Pantry at the Samost Jewish Family & Children’s Service.

Children’s activities will be available for children ages 1-10 during Shifts 2 and 3. Children will be spellbound by Magician Brian Richards; sing and dance along with Michelle King; “phrolick” with the Phillie Phanatic; make balloon creations with Bonnie from Bon Bon’s Parties, and more.
