Reisman Show marks 45 years
      Barry Reisman played his first Jewish record on the air in February of 1965. During the entire month of February 2010, Reisman will celebrate the milestone 45th anniversary of his popular Jewish/American radio program by re-playing various interviews he has conducted over the past four-and-a half decades.

Crete synagogue hit with its second fire
      The only synagogue on the Greek island of Crete may have suffered its second arson attack in less than two weeks. A fire at the Etz Hayyim synagogue in the city of Hania destroyed the wooden roof of the building as well as scores of books. The fire brigade investigating the cause has not ruled out arson. Etz Hayyim was seriously damaged in a Jan. 5 arson attack.

Obama: Mideast peace lagging
      President Obama acknowledged that the Middle East peace process has not moved forward. Obama told Time magazine in an interview that “we overestimated our ability to persuade” the Palestinians and Israelis “to start engaging in a meaningful conversation.” “This is as intractable a problem as you get,” he told Time’s Joe Klein.

Plane diverted over passenger’s tefillin
      A commercial flight was diverted to Philadelphia after a Jewish passenger’s tefillin were mistaken for a bomb. A passenger on the US Air flight last week from New York to Louisville mistook the religious prayer article as a bomb after the Jewish passenger had taken them out to pray, according to reports. Tefillin consist of two boxes each on a strap of leather.

Youkilis wins vote as top Jewish player

      Boston Red Sox infielder Kevin Youkilis was voted the top Jewish baseball player of the decade in online balloting. Jewish Major Leaguers, a suburban Boston-based organization that each year produces a set of trading cards of Jewish baseball players, conducted the vote.

Miep Gies, 100, hid Anne Frank
      Miep Gies, the woman who helped hide Anne Frank and recovered her diary, has died at 100. Gies, who died in the Netherlands, was the last surviving member of the small group that hid Anne Frank and her family from the Nazis. After the arrest of the Frank family by the Gestapo in 1944, Gies returned to the attic where they had been hiding and found the diary. (JTA)
