It isn’t only Iran’s nukes that the world must stop

President Obama recently said that Iran must choose between its suspected nuclear weapons program and the international community. That may be true, but even if Iran gave up its nuclear ambitions, it would still have a lot more to do in order to be operating under international norms. The Iranian regime’s international sins go beyond its nuclear program.

Iran is the chief funder and supporter of international terrorism in the world. Concrete evidence of this surfaced when Israeli commandos seized the Francop, a ship that originated in Iran and was bound for Syria. The Israeli government said that the ship’s cargo—3,000 rockets and hundreds of tons of munitions and weapons—was headed for Hezbollah terrorists in Lebanon. They, no doubt, intended to use those rockets to attack Israel’s cities.

Iran, ludicrously, denied any connection to the ship. So did Syria and Hezbollah. Coupled with Hezbollah’s denial was a statement condemning “Israeli piracy in international waters.”

The incident is just another reminder of the nature of the neighborhood Israel inhabits, of the determination of Israel’s enemies, and of the flaunting of international law by Iran. The government of Iran is a repressive regime with terrorist proxies throughout the world. President Obama is right to insist that Iran give up its nuclear program. There is so much more, however, that Iran needs to do. .
