      JERUSALEM—Nearly one in four people in the world are Muslim, according to a new report. The global Muslim population is 1.57 billion, according to The Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life report. The report estimated the world population at 6.8 billion.

Wexler leaving to head foundation
      WASHINGTON—Veteran congressman Robert Wexler is leaving Congress to head a nongovernmental organization promoting Middle East peace. Wexler, a Jewish Democrat who has represented his Delray Beach, FL-area district since 1997, told party leaders that he will be leading the Center for Middle East Peace and Economic Cooperation, the Miami Herald reported.

Marek Edelman dies; led Warsaw uprising
      ROME—Tributes poured in following the death of Marek Edelman, the last surviving commander of the 1943 Warsaw Ghetto Uprising against the Nazis. Edelman died in Warsaw. He was 90. Edelman was one of the leaders of Jewish militant groups who fought against the Nazis during their final attempt to liquidate the ghetto.
