Local cantors slated for Torah Fund event

The Sisterhoods of Cong. Beth El, Temple Beth Sholom, and Cong. Ner Tamid will again co-host an annual Torah Fund Brunch to help raise awareness of the importance of the Conserva t ive rabbinic, cantorial and educational institutes. The Torah Fund Campaign raises funds to preserve, promote and perpetuate Conservative/Masorti Judaism through active giving.

On Sunday, Nov. 1, these three area sisterhoods, affiliated

with the Conservative movementwillco-sponsor a brunch in support of The Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS) in New York, the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies at the American Jewish University in Los Angeles, and the Schechter Institute of Jewish Studies in Jerusalem. These institutes train future rabbis, cantors, educators and lay leaders for Conservative synagogues.

This year's program, "Singing in the Shul," will be held at Cong. Beth El, 8000 Main St., Voorhees. The guest speakers will be Hazzan Alisa Pomerantz-Boro of Cong. Beth El and Cantor Jen Cohen of Temple Beth Sholom, both graduates of the H.L. Miller Cantorial School and College of Jewish Music. A program highlighting their journeys to the cantorate along with a selection of musical pieces is planned. In addition to the guest speakers, the sisterhoods will honor all past Torah Fund chairs for their commitment to the Torah Fund Campaign.

Doors open at 9:15 a.m. for brunch; the program will begin promptly at 10 a.m. Guests are asked to make a minimum pledge of $18 to the Torah Fund Campaign. Reservations are required.
