Holocaust memorial dedicated in memory of Peter Schmeidler
     Temple Sinai in Cinnaminson recently dedicated a Holocaust memorial Jewish Community Voice in memory of Peter Schmeidler. Born in Mannheim, Germany, Peter Schmeidler and his family fled in 1938 following the infamous Kristallnacht pogrom. Many of his relatives did not survive the Holocaust. Following his death in 2008, Peter's wife Lois and his family commissioned nationally known artist David Ascalon to create a Holocaust memorial. Standing next to the Holocaust memorial that the Schmeidler family donated to Temple Sinai are Lois Schmeidler and Rabbi Steven Fineblum.

Katz JCC plans Open House on September 13
      The Katz JCC, 1301 Springdale Rd. in Cherry Hill, will hold an Open House on Sunday, Sept. 13 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. The event will include the launch of Les Mills Body Pump, food, tours, give-a-ways and money saving offers. The JCC offers cultural, fitness and educational programming for all ages in a state-of-the-art facility.

Local Maccabi participants return to South Jersey winners
      Sixty-six Jewish athletes and nine artists and musicians from South Jersey represented the Katz JCC during the recent JCC Maccabi Games and Maccabi ArtsFest. Athletes competed in San Antonio, Texas, where the boys' soccer and bowling teams scored big. The soccer team went undefeated in the preliminary round, coming home with a silver medal.

Planned rally will protest Iran's policies
      A rally is being planned to protest the government of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad during his upcoming visit to the United Nations. "Stand for Freedom in Iran" will be held in front of the United Nations on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 12 noon. Many Jewish organizations, including the local Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC), are encouraging people to attend.

Local caregiver to be honored
      Local attorney Jerold E. Rothkoff and CareOne Assisted Living Community in Evesham will honor a local caregiver in November—National Caregiving Month. Between 44 and 54 million people provide care for a loved one in the United States. One certified nursing assistant and one family caregiver will be recognized at an awards ceremony.
