Jonathan Harris donates gazebo to Saltzman House
     Jonathan Harris learned the importance of tzedakah from his bar mitzvah Torah portion. The Cong. Beth El student recently applied that lesson when he used part of his bar mitzvah money to purchase a gazebo for residents of the Saltzman House. Chairs for the new gazebo were donated by members of the Jewish Federation Housing Associates. Cutting the ribbon with Jonathan (fourth from left), were Saltzman residents (from left), Maury Denbo, Bea Greenberg, Lil Bennon, Jerry Mosberg, Estelle Kushner and Rose Weber.

Woodcrest Pro-Am benefits JCC Camps & Open Hearts
     The 38th Annual Woodcrest Invitational Pro-Am paired golf professionals with amateurs for a day of fun and fundraising. Chaired by JCC members Steve Schwartz and Jeff Herskowitz, the day benefited the JCC Camps at Medford Scholarship Fund and the Open Hearts/Open Doors inclusion program for children with special needs. The scholarship fund has sent over 5,000 children to camp. One of the highlights of the day was the presentation of the Daniel B. Toll Humanitarian Award to Steve Shapiro (top photo, left) by Dr. Robert Belafsky. The day also featured PGA professional Sean O'Hair at a TaylorMade-sponsored golf clinic. O'Hair (bottom, center) was joined by event Co-chairs Schwartz (left) and Herskowitz.

Arthur Abramowitz chosen as Saltzman Foundation trustee
      Arthur J. Abramowitz has been selected to serve as a lifetime trustee for the Raymond & Gertrude R. Saltzman Foundation, replacing the late Hon. Barry Weinberg. The announcement was made by Alan Wechsler, Saltzman Foundation president.

Cantor Jen Cohen will sing Anthem at Phillies game
      Cantor Jen Cohen and the Temple Beth Sholom choir, Makhelat Bet Sholom, will perform the National Anthem at the Phillies game on Jewish Heritage Night, Thursday, Aug. 20, when the Phils play host to the Arizona Diamondbacks. The evening will feature Jewish music and kosher food.

B'nai Tikvah hosts 'Backward Shabbat'
      Cong. B'nai Tikvah, Fishpond Rd. in Washington Twp., will host a "Backward Shabbat" on Friday, Aug. 21 at 6:30 p.m. The evening will begin with an Oneg Shabbat, which is normally at the end of services. A Family Shabbat Service, led by Hebrew School students, follows. All are welcome.
