JCF honors scholars, emerging leaders at June 29 awards dinner
     The Jewish Community Foundation awarded a total of over $15,000 to 15 scholars and emerging leaders during a June 29 awards dinner at the home of JCF donors Diane and Eytan Irwin. Here, JCF Executive Jeff Klein (left) congratulates Rachel Singer (2nd from right), who won an award from the Jewish War Veterans Post 126 Scholarship Fund, and her parents, David and Susan. Thirty-five attendees included Scholarship Committee Chair Steve Eisner and JCF Vice President Jim Kellmer.

Summer Family MusicFest on Aug. 3
      host their second annual Summer Family MusicFest on Monday, Aug. 3 at 5 p.m. Held at the JCC, the program will feature a live concert performance by Hester Street Troupe and Avram Pengas & The Noga Group. Open to the community, the concert costs $5 per adult, and is free to all under 12.

Young Israelis at Medford Camps
     Recently arrived from Israel for a two-month visit to Southern NJ, during which they will serve in various roles at the Medford JCC Camps, are shlichim, or emissaries, (from left), Danielle Cabili, Meytal Shavit, Avishay Levi Hevroni (from Arad), P2K American Chair Sivia Braunstein, and Keshet Shoham (from Arad). The camp shlichut is an annual collaboration of Federation, New Jersey/Delaware- Arad/Tamar Partnership 2000 (P2K), the Katz JCC, and the Department of Jewish Education, Three of the new shlichim are active-duty soldiers.

Dubois scholars recognized
     High school students honored with Josiah Dubois scholarships in 2009 were recognized at the recent annual Goodwin Holocaust Museum and Education Center Volunteer reception. The scholarships are presented to students who have made a difference in their communities. Sponsoring teachers and honorees gathered during the ceremonies held on the Weinberg Jewish Community Campus are (from left), Donna Donato of Eastern High School with $500 winner Parth Chavan; $1,000 winner Tyler Brent of Rancocas Valley Regional High School; Susan Freedman, Shawnee High School, with $2,000 winner Evan Anderson, and Bernice Glazier, co-chair, Josiah DuBois Scholarship Committee. Joleen Kavaliauskas, Highland High School, was awarded $500.

Gail Cohen to head Isdaner ECE
      Gail Cohen has been named director of the Sari Isdaner Early Childhood Center at the Katz JCC, announced Les Cohen, Katz JCC executive director. Cohen, a native of Northeast Philadelphia, earned her Masters in Education from Beaver University, known today as Arcadia University, and brings with her over 30 years of experience in early childhood education.

Any more athletes out there?
      The July 1 issue of the Voice front-paged a story about seven local teen athletes en route to Israel to participate in the 18th World Maccabiah Games. We have since learned that even more teen athletes from the tri-county area are representing the US in the games that began on July 12.
