SOS graduates celebrate
Nine people recently graduated from the Success of Savings (SOS) program, sponsored by the Special Needs Department of Samost Jewish Family and Children's Service (JFCS). SOS is a financial literacy program that empowers individuals with disabilities by teaching them financial literacy skills, such as budgeting and handling banking transactions, as well as learning about savings and interest. The program encourages saving through a combination of interactive coursework, trips to local banks, and supported banking. Students saved for a specific savings goal, and had their savings matched up to $500. At the recent graduation ceremony, each participant spoke about what they learned in the class and what they will be purchasing with their savings. Joining with the graduates was Lois Forman (far left), program coordinator. For more information about SOS or other JFCS special needs programs, contact Barbara Abrams at 424-1333.
