Mayor Bernie Platt to get award from AJCommittee

HON. BERNIE PLATT…Cherry Hill mayor will be recognized for environmental work. HON. BERNIE PLATT…Cherry Hill mayor will be recognized for environmental work. Cherry Hill Mayor Bernie Platt will receive the American Jewish Committee's inaugural New Energy Awareness Award on Thursday, June 25 at the Crown Plaza Hotel. The award is being presented in recognition of his commitment to energy conservation.

Under Platt's leadership, Cherry Hill has become a city to emulate among those who promote energy awareness, from solar panels that provide electricity to rain barrels to collect free water, fuel-conserving vehicles in parking lots, and heat, air-conditioning, and lighting upgrades, plus a recently enlarged recycling program.

In addition to the recognition of Platt, the event will also benefit the American Jewish Committee and its programs, including Project New Car, which seeks to increase alternative fuel options to decrease American dependence on foreign oil, dovetailing with the work in New Jersey to implement battery charging stations along state roadways.

The dinner event is being chaired by Victor Levy.
