Barrack Academy celebrates Yom Ha'atzmaut with song & sport

     The Israel Club at Barrack Hebrew Academy recently organized a schoolwide celebration of Yom Ha'atzmaut. A highlight of the day was Barrack students playing soccer wearing the uniforms of Tel Aviv's teams. Among those playing in the game were (from left), Miriam Rock, Noah Bloch, Tal Ben-Maimon, Gabe Duec, and Dory Kalimi.

Jewish Community Foundation honors 'Women in Philanthropy'
     The Jewish Community Foundation (JCF) honored six "Women in Philanthropy" at its May 19 Annual Dinner. Ruth Saltzman, of blessed memory, Sis Levy, Marcy Sanders, Janine Sobel, Jamie Dollinger, and Nina Cohen, outgoing JCF president, were recognized for their impact on the community and for serving as role models for people of all ages. Holding their personalized vases from the evening were (from left), JCF donors Sis Levy, Janine Sobel, Marcy Sanders and Jamie Dollinger. Joining the women were Dollinger's daughters Rivka (standing) and Devora (in a sling).

      The Voice published a column by freelance writer Nechemia Meyers on Pg. 6 of the May 20 issue concerning Tel Aviv University academic Omar Barghouti. Mr. Barghouti emailed the Voice to say: "In his opinion piece of 20 May 2009, Mr. Nechemia Meyers falsely attributes a statement to me and makes an erroneous claim about a relative of mine.

Future TBS leaders visit JTS
     Members of Temple Beth Sholom's President's Leadership Institute recently spent the day at The Jewish Theological Seminary of America in New York City. The President's Leadership Institute is an intensive program of Jewish learning and leadership offered by TBS past presidents. The program has 12 participants and is facilitated monthly by Rabbi Micah Peltz in cooperation with The Jewish Outreach Partnership of Philadelphia. Gathered at JTS were (from left), Stuart Sklar, Ellyn Kellerman, Michael Perlow, Stephanie Krause, Rabbi Micah Peltz, Karen Cassway, Sara Kreisman, Lori Oppen, Steve Borenstein and Adam Engle. Katz JCC installs leaders & honors volunteers at Annual Meeting
The Katz JCC held its Annual Meeting on May 18. The event featured the installation of officers and board members. Glenn Fuhrman was installed as the JCC's new president. Awards were also presented to volunteers and staff.
