Muslims, Jews, Catholics learn and break bread together
     Addressing a group of Jews, Catholics and Muslims on the topic, 'Understanding Abraham: Jewish, Catholic and Muslim Perspectives," were (from left) Fr. Joe Ferrara, Priest Convener of Our Lady Mt. Carmel and St. Edward Parishes; Rabbi Geri Newburge, Temple Emanuel; Alan Respler, moderator, JCRC executive director, and Dr. Rafey Habib, a professor at Rutgers University. The discussion was part of the annual Breaking Bread Together program jointly sponsored by the Jewish Community Relations Council, the Catholic Jewish Commission and the Jewish-Catholic-Muslim Dialogue.

      A team from Cong. Beth El won the Jewish Athletic Group's (JAG) spring bowling tournament. Howard Miron's 216 and Bennett Shanker's 214 keyed a victory over the Cong. M'kor Shalom team.

Pennsauken native starts 'sockscriptions'
      Pennsauken native Lori Rosen has opened a U.S. branch of Blacksocks, a "sockscription" service. Based in Europe, Blacksocks allows busy men to place sock orders on the web at www.blacksocks.com. Rosen, who owns a public relations firm in New York, calls Blacksocks perfect for men who don't like shopping.

Sons of Israel to honor Jungreises
      Cong. Sons of Israel will honor Bill and Lynn Jungreis with the Rabbi Naftoli H.J. Riff Memorial Award at the synagogue's Annual Gala Dinner on Sunday, May 10 at 5:30 p.m. The event will be held at the Camden County Boathouse. Entertainment will be provided by Harmonia, an a cappella group. The public is welcome.

M'korstock Festival of music, arts, shalom
      To commemorate the 40th anniversary year of the memorable Woodstock Festival, Cong. M'kor Shalom will stage a festival of its own. Called M'korstock, the one day of music, arts and shalom, is set for Sunday, May 31. Loaded with activities for adults and children, the event will represent a collaboration of Cong. M'kor Shalom and Gift of Life Organ Donor Program.

Braunstein's photos at Katz JCC show vitality of Ethiopian-Israelis
      When Sivia Katz Braunstein was in Israel last fall for a Partnership 2000 (P2K) conference, she heard about an Ethiopian pilgrimage festival known as the Sigd. For 2,000 years, Ethiopian Jews fasted, read the Torah, repented, and then made a pilgrimage up a mountain, all so that they would be worthy enough to return to Jerusalem.
