Adams meets Hamas leaders
IRISH EYES…
      Northern Irish Republican leader Gerry Adams met with Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh in Gaza. Israel's Foreign Ministry had recommended that Adams, president of the Sinn Fein party, not be permitted to enter Gaza since he planned to meet with Hamas. Adams was permitted to enter Gaza after Quartet Mideast envoy Tony Blair intervened, the Jerusalem Post reported.

Army rabbi slams Conservatives
      An army rabbi has refused to recognize Conservative Jewish soldiers as religious Jews. The rabbi of the Nahal infantry brigade has forbidden the troops belonging to the Conservative, or Masorti, movement, from growing beards for religious reasons, Ha'aretz reported, citing Army Radio.

Project preserves Western Wall stones
      A new conservation project to preserve the stones in the Western Wall has been instituted by the Israel Antiquities Authority. Israeli architects surveyed the holy site last year after some pieces of stone fell, and found that many of them were deteriorating. Now, and for the next three months, each stone will be individually inspected and new mortar put in as needed.
