The Jewish Community Foundation, Federation's planned giving arm, sponsored its first scholarship awards event at the Cherry Hill home of Vivian and Andrew Barnett last month. Following an outdoor barbeque dinner, JCF President Nina Cohen awarded certificates to the winners, all of them South Jersey high school graduates.

Also on hand was Robert Schattner, donor of the Robert L. Schattner Scholarship, which is given based on financial need. Jeff Klein, JCF Executive Director, recalled Schattner's enthusiasm upon establishing a fund 12 years ago to help college students offset the high cost of college. As a result of his desire to give back to others, Schattner created one of the first JCF scholarship funds, and he has since been able to award scholarships to several deserving students per year.

Over the years, the JCF has expanded its reach with six separate scholarship funds. This year approximately $20,000 in funds were distributed to 21 individuals. The winners were selected by the Scholarship Committee, chaired by Steve Eisner, who was also in attendance. .
