CAMPAIGN DOLLARS AT WORK

JDC Helps Elderly Around The World

During times of emergency, the elderly feel trapped in their homes- often with little understanding of what is happening around them. The American Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) has established an Emergency Supportive Community program to provide relief from the anxiety and fear caused by ongoing emergency situations.

Called the JDC-ESHEL Supportive Community network, this program enables older Israelis to remain in their homes, instead of moving to senior facilities, by providing services addressing daily needs. A call button connects homes to an emergency response center for medical needs; a community coordinator keeps in contact with seniors and does small repairs; volunteers help with social programs, home visits and errands. Some 200 Supportive Communities operate, and are expected to grow to 300 through 2010.

Contributions to the Jewish Federation Annual Campaign support this and many more programs for the elderly provided worldwide by JDC. The Annual Campaign also provides critically-needed dollars for a local network of senior services that impact the lives of thousands of people across Southern New Jersey.

So many Jews in need, here and around the world depend on our support. Make your increased gift today to the Jewish Federation Annual Campaign. .
