Carter a "bigot," says ambassador
      WASHINGTON (JTA)- Israel's U.N. ambassador called Jimmy Carter a "bigot" for meeting with Hamas leaders. Ambassador Dan Gillerman made the remarks at a Washington press luncheon held by the Israel advocacy group The Israel Project, The Associated Press reported.

Mezuzah can stay at Florida condo
      NEW YORK (JTA)- A condo association discriminated against a Jewish resident with a mezuzah on her door, a Florida human rights board ruled. The Port Condominium did not have the right to order Laurie Richter, 29, to remove the mezuzah or face a $1,000 fine, the Broward County human rights board said.

JDate earns a Webby Award
      NEW YORK (JTA)- JDate was honored in the 12th annual Webby Awards. The Jewish online dating site was cited in the social networking category, CNN reported. The Webby Awards, called the "Oscars of the Internet," is an international contest that recognizes excellence on the Internet. More than 10,000 entries were submitted this year from 60 countries, according to CNN.

Far-right rally demonizes Jews
      MOSCOW (JTA)- Far-right nationalists praised terrorism and demonized Jews at a rally in Moscow. Police did not respond as about 400 far-right nationalists cheered as speakers called for the murder of various government officials, praised terrorist methods and demonized Jews, the Russian national daily Kommersant reported.

Student charged in North Dakota
      NEW YORK (JTA)- A University of North Dakota student was charged in an incident that helped drive a Jewish freshman from his dormitory. The Grand Forks County state Attorney's Office issued charges against Spencer Garness, who allegedly wrote "Scott is a Jew" in ice cream in a campus residence hall elevator, according to news reports.

Beckham boy in Jewish school
      LONDON (JTA)- Soccer star David Beckham and his wife, Victoria, a former Spice Girl, will send their son to a Jewish preschool. Cruz Beckham, 3, will attend an "exclusive Jewish school" in the Los Angeles area that is "attached to a Jewish temple," the London tabloid magazine The Sun reported.

Tryouts set for Maccabiah
      PHILA.- Online applications for the Junior Boys Basketball Team, which will represent the United States at the 18th World Maccabiah Games, are now being accepted. Eligible participants must be born in 1993 or 1994. The World Maccabiah Games will take place in Israel from July 13-23, 2009.
